For a few years, it seemed like it was only Roland Emmerich who kept this genre alive in its purest form… and then, in 2015, “San Andreas” came out. From “Earthquake” in the 70s to “Independence Day” in the 90s, Hollywood has rarely stopped making movies about these kinds of larger than life events. Disaster movies have been a landmark of popcorn filmmaking for decades.
